A daily word association game

Relay is a free word game that changes every day. Its clues aren't written by a computer: they're one-word telegrams from players who saw the same sixteen words the day before. Read the clue, find the words they meant, then send your own clues to tomorrow's players.

Letsdle TelegraphsThe rules in full

How to play Relay

  1. Every day brings three rounds, each on a board of sixteen words. In round 1 the clue points to one word, in round 2 to two words, in round 3 to three.
  2. Each clue is a single word, chosen by another player for those targets.
  3. Pick as many words as the round asks for, then send the receipt. Once sent, it's final.
  4. Every right word scores: up to 1 point in round 1, 3 in round 2 and 6 in round 3, so 10 points a day.
  5. Then it's your turn: write one word for each of your three telegrams. Tomorrow, other players look for your targets among the same sixteen words.
  6. A new day starts at 01:00, Paris time.

Questions

Is Relay free?

Yes. Relay is free and you can play without an account. A free Letsdle account is optional: it keeps your stats on every device and puts you on the leaderboards.

Who writes the clues?

Other players. Each clue was written the day before by someone who saw the same sixteen words and was given the targets. When no player has written one yet, the Letsdle Office sends a team clue, marked as such.

How is my score worked out?

Round 1 is worth 1 point. In round 2, one right word earns 1 point and both earn 3. In round 3, one, two or three right words earn 1, 3 or 6 points. The best day is 10 out of 10.

Why are some words banned when I write a clue?

A clue can't be one of the sixteen words on the board, or a word too close to one of your targets, such as the same word in another form. That keeps the game about association, not spelling.

Do I get points for my own clues?

Yes. As a sender, you score when other players find your targets from your clue. The leaderboards rank receivers and senders by day, by month and of all time.

Can I play with friends?

Yes. After you send a telegram, “Challenge a friend” makes a link to your clue. Your friends can look for your targets among the sixteen words until the end of the next day.

Can I play in another language?

Use the language switch at the top of the page. Players of every language share the same clues: each clue is chosen from a shared word list and shown in your language.
